How to restore last session in Internet Explorer

Before proceeding further, let’s understand the expected configuration change needed to display the last visited URL or web page.


As you know, we can modify or reset the Internet Explorer configurations in Internet options screen. Open Internet options window by navigating to Menu -> Tools -> and click on Internet Options sub menu item. This will load the Internet Options window. In Internet Options window, switch to General tab. In General tab you can see that, Startup option, Start with tabs from last session option is disabled and not selected. By enabling option will bring the previously visited web page automatically when we open the Internet Explorer next time.

If this option is disabled, then you can enable this option through the Local Group Policy editor.

Open the Windows Local Group Policy editor by entering ‘gpedit.msc‘ in Run command window and hit Enter key from keyboard.

On the Windows Local Group Policy editor window, click on User Configuration -> Administrative Templates -> Windows Components -> Internet Explorer -> Internet Control Panel -> General Page. You can see here, the configuration ‘Start Internet Explorer with tabs from last browsing session‘ is not configured or enabled. Let’s enable this in further steps.

Double click on the item ‘Start Internet Explorer with tabs from last browsing session,’ which opens the configuration window to enable this option.
